We love raising our kids on a farm. They learn from a very young age that caring for something else must be done in order to be successful. They learn that it has to be done every single day, consistently, and that there are no shortcuts. More often than not, our own supper plans are put off to make sure than the animals have been taken care of and fed, and they’re okay with that. They learn where food comes from and the circle of life, while also learning the importance of and beauty of life for the animal. Even if they don’t grow up to be farmers one day, we hope that the lessons that they learn from the farm will help them to be responsible, successful and respectful adults.

Day 27. Agvocate (Advocate for Agriculture) – Most people think of social media and online platforms to speak up for our industry, which is great! But it’s also telling you’re dental hygienist about dairy cows when she asks how raising calves is a full time job. Or reassuring the soccer mom at the grocery store that all milk is safe when she tells you, clearly embarrassed, she can’t afford organic for her family. It’s answering questions even if they weren’t directly asked to you (especially if the people think you’re not the one to ask, and something if you don’t feel like the one to ask either).
