Missouri man who killed Diemel brothers charged with federal crimes

Published:

According to several news report, Missouri man Garland Nelson — who is already imprisoned for two life sentences after his 2019 murder of two brothers — has been charged an additional 32 years for federal crimes.

Reports indicate that U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips also ordered Nelson to pay $261,000 in restitution to his victims after Nelson admitted to defrauding Diemel Livestock of Wisconsin.

Last year, Nelson admitted to shooting Nicholas Diemel and Justin Diemel, and then placing Nicholas’ remains in a manure pile and Justin’s in a bucket.

The brothers went missing after they traveled to Nelson’s farm to collect a $250,00 debt that had accrued after Nelson agreed to care for cattle owned by Diemel Livestock LLC.

Nelson had agreed to feed, pasture, and sell cattle, then send profits after expenses back to the brothers, he allegedly sold, traded, and killed many cattle without remitting payment. Nelson continued to bill the Diemel brothers for feed and yardage for the cattle he was no longer housing.

In June 2019, Nelson fraudulently sent the Diemels a check for $215,936 while the account balance was at $0.21 cents.

The brother’s father reported them missing on July 21, 2019. Four months later, the remains of Justin Diemel were found in a livestock trailer in Lincoln County, Nebraska. The remains of Nicholas Diemel were recovered on a farm in rural Caldwell County, Missouri.

At the time of the brothers’ deaths, Nelson was on parole after serving 17 months in federal prison for an October 2016 conviction for cattle and insurance fraud. He pled guilty during the September trial to two counts of first degree murder and was sentenced to life without parole.
