CattleCon National Anthem, scholarships, internships now open

Published:

The 2024 Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show will take place in Orlando, Florida, this year between Jan. 31 and Feb. 2. Leading up to convention, opportunities for performers, scholarships, and internships are opening up.

National Anthem Contest

One of the jewels of the lead-up to the convention each year is the National Anthem Contest — and entries are now being accepted.

Singers and musicians are invited to submit their Star-Spangled Banner entries for CattleCon’s eleventh annual National Anthem Contest for the chance to sing at the Opening General Session at #CattleCon24.

The contest is open to members (or family) of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, American National Cattlewomen, or Cattlemen’s Beef Board. Previous NCBA National Anthem Contest winners are not eligible to compete.

Entries can be submitted until Oct. 15, 2023, and the top four finalists will be chosen by Oct. 20, and posted to the convention website. Voting will open to the public on Nov. 1, 2023, with winners announced by Nov. 17.

What do you win?

The 11th annual National Anthem Contest winner will receive round-trip airfare to Orlando, a hotel room for three nights during CattleCon, complimentary registration, a pair of boots, jeans, and a shirt from Roper or Stetson.

2023 CattleCon National Anthem Contest winner

Franki Moscato of Oshkosh, Wisc. won the contest this year. While not a rancher herself, Moscato’s family has been farming since 1857, and she first sang the National Anthem at 11. Moscato noted that she travels nationwide, speaking at teen suicide awareness events.

CattleCon Scholarship Program

If you’re interested in attending CattleCon, each year, NCBA offers a CattleCon Scholarship Program. With opportunities for beef industry members, students, and young beef members, there’s funding available for folks from all sectors of the beef industry.

Each scholarship offers a Complimentary Education Package to CattleCon24 and discounted housing accomodations.

Here’s who can apply:

  • Beef Industry Member Scholarship: Any member of the beef cattle industry can apply for the Beef Cattle Industry Member Scholarship.
  • Student Scholarship: College, post graduate, or doctoral students currently enrolled in classes.
  • Young Beef Scholarship: Any young beef producer in the industry.

Convention Internships

Each year, NCBA offers the opportunity for college students interested in the beef industry to help out at CattleCon. Interns will gain hands-on experience as they network and work to kickstart their careers.
