The National Corn Growers Association has announced the 25 winners of the 2017 Fields of Corn Photo Contest, a contest that provided aspiring shutterbugs of all types the opportunity to share in – and visually communicate – the great beauty and hard work that make up American agriculture.
“Again this year, we opened up this photo contest to the general public, and we are deeply impressed with the high quality and large number of entries submitted,” said NCGA Graphic Communications Designer Beth Musgrove. “These images will help us tell the story of farming in a meaningful, powerful way and, in fact, they are already featured in some of our publications and on our website.”
Winning the grand prize was Lance Otto of Redwood Falls, Minnesota. His image, “Harvest Glow,” came from the “scenery and landscapes” category. Featuring a unique perspective of harvest set against a dramatic sunset backdrop, his photo demonstrates the incredible beauty inherent in daily life on farms across America. This year, 469 photos were entered and judged online, with entries up nearly 44 percent from the contest last year.
In addition to the grand prize, photographs were judged across seven specific categories, and three winners were named for each category. An additional three entries receive a first, second, or third place prize in recognition of photos receiving the highest number of “likes” on Facebook.
