The 2022 World Dairy Expo opened on Sunday in Madison, Wisconsin, with over 50,000 dairy industry professionals and enthusiasts anticipated to attend. The expo is known as the international meeting place for the dairy industry with seven breed shows, an array of modern dairy equipment and technology on display, auctions, educational seminars, and more available to any dairy enthusiast in attendance.

For years, the World Dairy Expo has been the place to introduce new ideas and innovations to the global dairy industry. A list of technologies is available online here. The 2022 World Dairy Expo Tech Spotlight was held virtually on September 15 and will be hosted in-person from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. CST on October 6 during the expo.
Both the virtual and in-person components of the event include two parts: a showcase of the innovations followed by a panel discussion with industry experts Jeffrey Bewley, Cowfocused.com and Professor at Western Kentucky University; Michael Hutjens, Professor of Animal Sciences at University of Illinois; and Julio Giordana, Associate Professor at Cornell University.
“The World Dairy Expo Tech Spotlight provides young start-ups an opportunity to showcase some of the newest technologies available to the global dairy industry. These technologies, and those found in the Trade Show at the World Dairy Expo, can help dairy producers in many aspects on the farm,” says Laura Herschleb, World Dairy Expo General Manager.
Yesterday students competed in fitting and judging contests. Here are the results:
2022 World Dairy Expo Youth Fitting Contest
The fitting contest kicked off the 55th World Dairy Expo with 78 participants registered from 12 U.S. states, Denmark, and Canada. Contestants ages 13 to 21 were given one hour to prepare their animal to show-ring ready. After topping the Senior Male Division, Robert Nagel from Clymer, New York was presented the Overall Fitter Award. Brooke Hammerman from Barron, Wisconsin, won the Senior Female Division. Intermediate Female Division winner was Adhyn Schell from Lewiston, Minnesota and Intermediate Male Division winner was Logan Shoop from Wimauma, Florida.
100th National Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
Pennsylvania took the top honors in the 100th National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging contest on Sunday. The team members Ellie Curtis, Sara Haag, Madelynn Hoffman, and Morgan smoker scored 1,994 total points under coach Chad Dechow. The second overall team, by a margin of 44 points was the Michigan team followed by Texas.
101st National Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
Topping the Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest was a Virginia Tech team, which finished first among 15 attending schools. The Virginia Tech team finished with a score of 2,479, placing first in reasons, second in placings, and had the second and fourth overall individuals: Madison Sifford and Jenna Marston.
Finishing second and third overall were California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and Purdue University, respectively.
International Post-Secondary Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
SUNY Cobleskills secured a first-place win as the overall team in the International Post-Secondary Diary Cattle Judging Contest. The team scored 2,264 points between the members Karrie Ayer, Addison Hubbell, Kailey Kuhn, and Kyler Meisner. Second place team was Kaskaskia College followed by Modesto Junior College.
