A second man who police suspect of helping steal a truck containing $400,000 worth of beef in Miami-Dade County, Florida, last month, has been arrested.
On Sept. 12, a 53-foot container full of beef was stolen and reported to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Unfortunately for the thieves, the stolen container held a GPS tracker.
Upon responding to the scene, Miami-Dade Police found four people exiting and fleeing the stolen container. Using a security video, police said four suspects were identified as Jorge Lyen Blanco Diaz, Lazaro Izquierdo, Leandro Respo, and Christian Garcia.
Diaz and Izquierdo have been arrested, but Respo and Garcia remain at large.
Izquierdo was the first of the suspects to be apprehended, news outlet MEAWW reports. At the scene, law enforcement said they noticed Izquierdo getting into a pickup truck and attempting to flee after seeing the officers.
After fleeing the scene, officers said that Izquierdo used a frequency jammer, complicating communication between law enforcement until he lost control of his truck. Officers arrested Izquierdo and indicated that he was connected with a separate incident in July involving a stolen Audi. In this case, he is accused of injuring detectives involved in attempts to detain him after crashing into the front gate of a truck yard.
Diaz was apprehended nearly a month after the alleged beef theft following a high-speed police chase, according to arrest reports. During the arrest, police used a TASER on Diaz after they said he caused an abrasion on the officer’s neck. He was reportedly found to be driving with a revoked license and an active warrant.
Diaz and Izquierdo now face charges of grand theft of cargo over $50,000 and resisting an officer. Diaz is also facing battery charges against an officer, resisting an officer with violence, fleeing or eluding the police with lights and sirens, and habitual driving with a suspended license.
